History of the Windegg Manor
A home over centuries
In the walls of our manor house you can hear the whispering of voices long gone.
From residence tower to neoclassical building
Originally, the residence was a medieval residence tower that once belonged to the Lords of Rottenburg. Its foundation walls are still preserved in the building today and tell of times long gone.
Around 1390, the tower became the property of the Lords of Reinisch before being extended into a neoclassical, three-storey building in 1817 on the orders of Johann Nepomuk von Schasser. Decorative paintings in the great hall still testify to the rich history of the manor.
Restoration
In 1962, the Windegg Manor was acquired by Ignaz Brigl, our father and grandfather. With great dedication, he had it professionally restored in 1998. Since then, the manor has been shining in new splendour while retaining its historical charm, which transports guests and visitors back to a bygone era.
The name
Can you hear the wind whistling? "Windegg" means “windy corner” and on some days, our manor lives up to its name. Then the wind runs up from the valley, sweeps over Lake Kaltern, the vineyards and meadows, before blowing around the house.
